Mandatory Fingerprint Requirement

Mandatory Fingerprinting Requirement For License or Registration Renewal

As a condition of license or registration renewal, a veterinarian or registered veterinary technician is required to furnish a full set of fingerprints to the Department of Justice for the purpose of conducting a criminal history record check and to undergo a state and federal level criminal offender record information search conducted through the Department of Justice. (Cal. Code Regs., § 2010.05.)

The Veterinary Medical Board will be notifying licensees on their renewal notice if they are required to complete electronic fingerprinting through the Department of Justice. If you are notified by the Board to complete electronic fingerprinting, the following will be on your one-page renewal notice: “The Board does not have your electronic fingerprints on file - pursuant to 16 CCR § 2010.05, your license CANNOT BE RENEWED until you furnish a full set of fingerprints to the Department of Justice.”

To complete the mandatory fingerprint requirements, fill out and complete the “Request for Live Scan Service” form and submit the form to your nearest Live Scan site. Live Scan is a system for the electronic submission of fingerprints for background checks. Pursuant to Penal Code Section 11077.1, fingerprints must be submitted electronically via Live Scan. Pay the applicable fees with your completed Request for Live Scan Service form and submit a copy of the “Request for Live Scan Service” form to the Veterinary Medical Board at vmb@dca.ca.gov.
